Green Relief Initiative
On 14th March 2026, Green Relief Initiative successfully conducted a fish farming training for 70 young people at our training centre in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement. The training brought together both refugees and members of the host community, creating an inclusive learning environment aimed at building practical skills and strengthening community resilience.
This training marks the beginning of a weekend training program that will continue to equip young people with knowledge and practical experience in aquaculture.
Promoting Livelihood Opportunities
Fish farming is an important and growing sector that offers income generation, improved nutrition, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Through this training, participants were introduced to practical fish farming techniques that can help them start small aquaculture projects within their communities.
The program is designed to empower youth with hands-on skills that can lead to self-employment and economic independence, especially in communities where livelihood opportunities are limited.
Practical Skills and Knowledge
During the training, participants learned both theoretical concepts and practical methods in fish farming. Key topics covered included:
- Introduction to aquaculture and fish farming
- Fish pond preparation and management
- Selection of suitable fish species
- Fish feeding practices and nutrition
- Water quality management
- Fish health and disease control
- Harvesting and basic fish marketing
Participants also engaged in practical demonstrations, allowing them to understand how fish farming systems operate in real-life settings.
Strengthening Community Collaboration
By bringing together refugees and the host community, the training promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and peaceful coexistence while building common economic opportunities.
Ongoing Weekend Training Program
The fish farming training will continue every weekend at Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement, allowing more young people to participate and gain valuable skills in aquaculture.
Green Relief Initiative remains committed to empowering communities through sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and youth skills development. Through initiatives like this, we aim to create opportunities for young people to become future aquaculture entrepreneurs and contributors to food security in their communities. 🌱🐟
